NanoWriMo 2020 Supply List

I've done NanoWriMo (with varying levels of success) since 2012 with a full on "break" last year (I had just published Homecoming and wanted a rest). So far, I'm pretty happy with my progress in the first two days. Here's what is in my survival kit.
  • An Alphasmart NEO 2 word processor. Great for writing or taking notes when I'm away from my desk. Also doesn't allow Internet access, so it helps cut distractions. Often when doc gets called in at night, the NEO 2 is my late-night sprinting partner.
  • Ear plugs: I first began using ear plugs back when I was studying for my PhD comprehensive exams. Sometimes I need a lot of quiet to work things out.
  • Good Pandora, Spotify, and other stations: I don't write as well with music as I used to, but Sunrise on the Ganges, Lindsey Stirling, Andreas Vollenweider or other non-lyric-dependent music can help. I also keep my MP3 player charged up and handy.
  • Soundtrack in progress: I tend to develop a soundtrack for the books as I work. So far this project really fits Concrete Blonde's _Mexican Moon_ album, in particular "Heal it Up," "Jonestown," "I Call it Love," and "Jesus." Once I'm done with this list, I'll probably work on my YouTube soundtrack playlist and put those on it. I'm sure from the song choices I just listed, you can guess something about the topic.
  • Index cards: I don't always use them for writing, but they are handy for writing something fast and then filing away. Something about writing an idea on a card seems more "serious" than other notes for me. Maybe because of the days when research papers started with index cards. I use them for non-book things, too, like grocery lists or reminders. Because they are thicker than paper, I don't tend misplace them as easily.
  • My notebook: I have a large letter sized notebook (in a hand-woven jacket my sister made me for Christmas a few years ago). Notes go in here, too.
  • My favorite pens. I love purple Uniball Signo pens, but last year my niece gifted me a huge pack of Pilot Frixion pens in an array of colors. I like those too. And they erase!
  • Tea. Strong Irish breakfast, usually.
  • A sweater.
  • Scrivener: A must for me to keep it all together.
